David hunched over his tablet watching a video of Katy and her best friend Gertrude, whom everyone called Juicy. The girls huddled together staring at Katy’s cell phone. The camera set in the ceiling of the dance studio bathroom was perfectly placed to record both stalls and still see over Katy’s shoulder at the vanity. The video had been recorded the day before. David had watched it a dozen times. What was he going to do?

“Oh. my. God.” Katy squeezed Juicy, their breasts pressed together. “He can nail six, seven, eight. Eight! Eight turns he can nail.”

“Don’t bust a tit.” Juicy grabbed the cell. “You are so hot for this guy.”

“I have a boyfriend.” Katy snatched her phone. “How many times do I have to tell you he’s gay, anyway? Look at the way he dances. Straight guys do not move their hips like that.”

  “There is that.”

Son of a bitch. Katy would never be interested in him now with this new, big city dancer in town. The son of a bitch was good looking too, in that pretentious, pretty boy way Katy was sure to like. So what if he was gay? Girls always fell for the gay guys. What did they call it? Metrosexual?

He didn’t have the luxury of waiting for her to dump the quarterback anymore. He had to make his move now. He glanced up. Photos of Katy watched over him from every wall of his bedroom, her face alive in the flickering candlelight.

God, she was beautiful. He would do anything, anything to make her love him. He’d even googled “how do i make a girl love me?”  One site had grabbed his attention.

Simple instructions. Kind of whacked out, sure, but simple enough. Okay, fine, he’d give anything a try. The blogger was passionate. She’d been certain he would succeed, so certain she’d sent him naked pictures of herself dancing around a fire. So. . . dedicated, right?

He rushed to the small table in the corner and snatched up the cloth doll with Katy’s face pinned to it. He slowly wound a cotton thread around and around the doll, muttering, “Katy and David. Katy and David. Katy and David.”
